Extreme Camping

We went for our first night of camping on Tuesday night in the end, and it was pretty extreme!

We pitched our tent on a bit of a slope, so all night I kept rolling into Itaz by mistake. I think he was pretty pissed off by the end of it. Our stuff is all totally soaked now as well, because someone forgot to bring the flysheet (Itaz!)

But it's been great fun. In the morning, we couldn't get the stove lit, so we drove into town to get some breakfast at a cafe. It was the most satisfying breakfast ever!

The weather's been really extreme for the time we've been out here - we were trying to put our tent up in 20mph winds last night, and the temperature dropped down to 8degC. We were seriously freezing. We've done really well though - we went on a three mile hike yesterday and brought a picnic and some beers, but it was raining so the picnic got a bit wet. The beers cheered us up though.

To be honest, the camping is much harder than I thought, and I don't think we came well enough prepared. I've got a really bad case of the sniffles and all my clothes are damp from rainwater. Tonight Itaz and I are going back to the hotel, and Rachel's going to camp out.

Still having a great time,
Tom K

"I knew it.

What plonkers pitch their tent on a slope. If this is what 4 years at Oxford does for you, then BP is not in good shape for the future.

Cannot get a stove started: It does not get anymore basic than that.

20mph and 8 deg C: If this is what they think is a storm and cold, then there is no hope. They certainly do not make them like they used to. Too many hours sitting in front of play stations / computers.

3 mile hike: They state this as if this was some sort of conquest. That is not hike but merely a peerie wander that one does after dinner to work off the meal.

The bottom line is never let city dwellers out into the country as they will end up making an a__e of themeselves.

The Finnish are brought up in an extreme climate. If Tom indeed has Finnish blood in him, then I can only presume it is extremely well diluted."

"Come on Tom, Grow a pair of nuts, you must be the softest person I know.
Went out, met a girl camping, stayed in a hotel, tried camping, found it too tough so went back to hotel, meanwhile girl carried out camping.

You're a disgrace to the male population, Marianne wouldn't even call that extreme, 20 and 8 is mild, and what sort of man can't light a fire.

You must have looked like the stupidest tent in the campsite, and have you ever camped without jumping into your 'car' in the morning to go buy breakfast?

Maybe you could get lessons off Rachel."
